SEFFNER — A 44-year-old man who stepped out of his pickup truck after pulling into the emergency lane along Interstate 4 was struck and killed by a semitrailer truck Monday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
John P. Meyer Jr. of Brandon was eastbound on I-4 in a 2005 Ford pickup when he stopped about 9:45 a.m. near the entrance ramp from Mango Road, troopers said.
Meyer got out of the truck and was struck by an eastbound Publix semitrailer truck. He died at the scene.
A lane of I-4 was closed for two hours. The entrance ramp was closed for three hours, the patrol said.
