Rescue crews work to free trapped driver in Hillsborough crash

Injured driver trapped after collision

LITHIA — Emergency crews worked for an hour to free a man trapped inside a pickup that was run over by a dump truck Thursday morning near County Roads 39 and 672 in southeastern Hillsborough County.

The loaded dump truck was headed east about 9:30 a.m. when it collided with a 2011 Chevrolet pickup headed north through the intersection, Hillsborough deputies said.

The two vehicles rolled into a ditch on the roadside. The dump truck tumbled, dumping its load of dirt on top of the pickup, confining the injured driver, Adam Souders, 26, inside the cab.

Firefighters called in an extrication crew to free Souders. He was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where he was stable, authorities said.

The driver of the dump truck, Ynefre F. Tomas, 37, was cited for a violation of the right of way, deputies said.
