Riverview man dies in Selmon Expressway crash

TAMPA — A Riverview man was killed Saturday night after losing control of his car on a Lee Roy Selmon Expressway overpass and being thrown onto the roadway below, authorities said.

John M. Reyna, 22, was driving a 1999 BMW sedan west on the expressway about 10:45 p.m. when he lost control of the car as he approached the exit at 22nd Street. He hit the steel guard rail, then veered and hit the concrete barrier wall on the other side of the road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Reyna, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car onto 22nd Street below, troopers said. He died at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
