Rush hour drivers urged to avoid Waters and Boulevard in Tampa

TAMPA — Police closed W Waters Avenue at N Boulevard for a broken water main and downed power lines Tuesday night, and warned it would still be closed through Wednesday afternoon.

Carmen George, 52, of Tampa swerved to avoid a dog in the road and hit a fire hydrant, which led to a broken water main, Tampa police said. The flooding then caused power lines and a traffic signal to fall.

George was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the intersection until at least after rush hour Wednesday morning.

Busch Boulevard and Florida Avenue could serve as alternate routes. Repairs at the intersection are under way.
