Ruskin man dies in crash with garbage truck

GIBSONTON — A 77-year-old Ruskin man was killed Thursday afternoon when he changed lanes and collided with a garbage truck, state troopers said.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, turned onto northbound U.S. 41 from Pennsylvania Avenue. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, he was traveling "at a slow rate of speed" in a Lincoln sedan.

Once on the highway, he changed lanes in front of a Mack truck troopers said was driven by Michael G. Hernandez, 29, of Tampa. The truck was being operated by Progressive Waste Solutions of Florida out of Clearwater, the patrol said.

The Ruskin man died at the scene. The patrol said no charges were filed in the crash.
