Scooter driver dies in Dunedin crash

DUNEDIN — A Dunedin man died in a collision between a Jeep and a Honda scooter that shut down State Road 580 for four hours Sunday, authorities said.

The scooter driver, Gordon Haboush, 57, died at the scene after pulling in front of Rashied Jones, 38, and getting trapped under his Jeep Cherokee, investigators say. Jones was uninjured.

According to Pinellas County deputies, Haboush was driving north on Belcher Road toward SR 580 while Jones was driving east on SR 580.

The scooter went between stopped vehicles as it approached the intersection. Haboush then traveled between the through- lane and right-turn-only lane, pulling into the Jeep's path, authorities said. Haboush was not wearing a helmet.

The crash happened about 10:18 a.m. Sunday and shut down roads until late in the afternoon.
