TAMPA — The driver of a semitrailer truck lost control of it Tuesday morning, hit a guardrail and came to rest with the truck partly hanging off the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway.
The 8:30 a.m. crash near the downtown Tampa exit backed up traffic for miles, the Florida Department of Transportation said.
The truck, which was carrying bags of concrete mix, was traveling west toward Tampa, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The driver hit a guardrail and traveled about 600 feet along the barrier. The truck stopped after hitting three light poles, the patrol said. A front wheel was hanging over the barrier.
The driver, Mark Owen Pickard, 45, of Seffner was cited with careless driving, the patrol said. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
