Seminole bicyclist hospitalized after being struck by pickup

PINELLAS — A Seminole bicyclist was hospitalized Monday night after being struck by a pickup truck, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reports.

Osman Serrano, 33, was crossing Seminole Boulevard at 62nd Avenue, where there is no crosswalk, when Michael Pompeo, driving a Dodge Ram pickup, crashed into Serrano, deputies said.

Serrano was thrown off the bicycle and fell underneath the truck. Pompeo called 911.

Serrano was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Pompeo, 48, was not injured.

The accident remained under investigation Tuesday morning, deputies said. Speed did not seem to be a factor, but investigators were apparently trying to determine whether alcohol played a role in the crash. Pompeo had the right of way and was not at fault, deputies said.
