Spring Hill driver, 39, dies after SUV runs off the road

SPRING HILL — A sport utility vehicle ran off the road Saturday evening and overturned several times, ejecting the driver, who died at the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The Highway Patrol did not immediately release the name or gender of the driver, but said the person was 39 and lived in Spring Hill.

The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. as the 2000 Chevrolet SUV was going west on Northcliffe Boulevard "at a high rate of speed," the patrol said. It ran off the road near Century Drive, overturned several times, then hit a light pole and a culvert.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt. Troopers are still trying to determine what caused the crash.
