SPRING HILL — A 39-year-old Spring Hill man died after he lost control of his sport utility vehicle and was thrown from it Saturday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said Douglas W. Adkinson was westbound on Northcliffe Boulevard at a high rate of speed about 6:30 p.m. As he approached Century Drive, he lost control of his SUV and veered onto the north shoulder, troopers said. The vehicle overturned several times, striking a light pole and eventually vaulting through the intersection.
Adkinson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the SUV as it flipped. He died at the scene.
