Spring Hill motorcyclist critically injured in hit-and-run crash

SPRING HILL — A 27-year-old Spring Hill man was in critical condition after the motorcycle he was driving was involved in a hit-and-run wreck Friday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Brian J. Mahon was traveling west on Spring Hill Drive in the inside lane, west of Mariner Boulevard, about 1:35 p.m. Friday when a light-colored sport utility vehicle collided with his motorcycle.

The FHP said it was uncertain whether the two vehicles crashed into each other or whether Mahon was attempting to avoid a collision with the SUV. It was not immediately known whether the SUV was going east or west.

Mahon's 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle overturned and he was ejected. He was wearing a helmet. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. The FHP asked that anyone who witnessed the wreck call (813) 631-4020. The SUV was believed to have damage on its left front.
