St. Pete man critically injured after motorcycle crashes into brick wall

ST. PETERSBURG — A 24-year-old St. Petersburg man was hospitalized with critical injuries Thursday evening after he crashed a motorcycle into a brick wall, Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported.

The crash occurred as Dontavous Henry Thomas was riding at a high rate of speed on a 2006 Honda motorcycle on 68th Lane, south of 48th Avenue N, officials said. The bike hit a manhole cover and Thomas lost control about 5:40 p.m., troopers said.

The motorcycle hit a brick wall at 6865 48th Ave. N. Troopers said Thomas, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected and hit the wall.

He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition. An investigation is ongoing.
