ST. PETERSBURG — A bicyclist sustained minor injuries in a collision with an undercover sport-utility vehicle driven by a Pinellas County sheriff's detective on Thursday morning.

Brianna Northcutt, 33, of St. Petersburg, was biking south on 31st Street in the bike lane at about 7:30 a.m. The detective, driving on the eastbound off-ramp of Interstate 275 at 31st Street S, began to make a left turn.

A vehicle blocked his view, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said, and the detective struck Northcutt with the front-end of the SUV. She was knocked to the ground.

Northcutt was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with bruises and minor abrasions, the Sheriff's Office said.

The 51-year-old undercover detective, whom the Sheriff's Office did not identify, was hired in 2005. The investigation is continuing.

"The case is still open," Sgt. Spencer Gross said. "They haven't determined who's at fault, so at this point no one has been cited."
