ST. PETERSBURG — A St. Petersburg man died early Tuesday after clipping another car at high speed, police said.

Joshua Joseph Klessig, 24, was pronounced dead about 12:30 a.m. at Northside Hospital.

Here's what police say happened:

Klessig was southbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N, speeding and illegally passing cars.

Around the 8200 block, Klessig tried passing a 2004 Dodge minivan driven by Danny Noah Harnage, 26, of St. Petersburg. Klessig's 1998 Jeep Cherokee clipped Harnage's vehicle around 11:50 p.m. Monday, causing both vehicles to spin.

Klessig's Jeep spun and struck a concrete light pole. He was not wearing a seat belt. He had critical injuries to his upper body.

Harnage, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured.
