ST. PETERSBURG — A St. Petersburg man remained in critical condition Monday, a day after his motorcycle collided with a minivan on the Pinellas Bayway.

The crash happened at 5:41 p.m. Sunday just east of Sun Boulevard S.

Police said a 2005 Chrysler minivan driven by Jill Williams, 65, of Treasure Island, was stopped at a red light in the Bayway's westbound lane.

Donald A. Stample, 45, was driving his 1986 Harley-Davidson motorcycle up to the red light in the same lane without slowing down, police said.

Police said the minivan drove forward when the light turned green, but Stample locked his rear brake and slid into the back of the Chrysler. Stample was thrown from the motorcycle and hit his head on the pavement, police said. He was not wearing a helmet.

Officials took him to Bayfront Medical Center, where he remained Monday.

The crash is under investigation, police said.
