St. Petersburg motorcyclist dies in crash with car

ST. PETERSBURG — A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night when a car trying to enter Interstate 275 N at Roosevelt Boulevard collided with the bike, police said.

Haleigh Doggette, 25, was driving southeast on Roosevelt Boulevard when she tried to make a left turn onto the interstate, police said. Her 2002 Honda Accord collided with a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by Douglas Cozzola Jr., traveling in the opposite direction about 10 p.m.

Cozzola, who police say was driving at a high rate of speed, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before midnight. Police could not say whether he was wearing a helmet, but said because of the severity of the crash it would not have made a difference.

Doggette and her passenger were not injured. Police say no charges have been filed, but they are still investigating.

We're nearly halfway through 2017 already, a perfect time to step back from the daily grind of business and ask: How's Tampa Bay's economy doing?

Is there one theme or idea that captures the Tampa Bay brand? Not really but here's one possibility. The fun-loving annual Gasparilla "Invasion" of Tampa is captured in this photo of
