ST. PETERSBURG — Police have released the name of the pedestrian struck by a van on 22nd Avenue N early Friday.

Diane M. Buchanan, 58, of St. Petersburg was walking south across 22nd in the marked crosswalk about 6:30 a.m., roughly 15 minutes before sunrise, when she was struck by an eastbound 2006 Toyota van, St. Petersburg Police said. Buchanan was thrown onto the windshield and fell to pavement after the van turned onto 49th Street.

The driver of the van, 31-year-old Maikely Gonzalez-Conde of St. Petersburg, stopped a half block away. Gonzalez-Conde and her infant daughter were not injured. Police say it's unclear why she did not see Buchanan in the crosswalk.

Buchanan underwent surgery at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and is listed in critical condition.

No charges have been filed.
