St. Petersburg teen hospitalized after crash

ST. PETERSBURG — A St. Petersburg teenager was seriously injured after being hit by a van Thursday night, according to police.

Lakendrick D. Benjamin, 14, was crossing 34th Street South after leaving a business on the 3700 block with a group of bicyclists around 9:30 p.m.

Witnesses told police numerous vehicles had to react to avoid hitting the group.

Benjamin collided with a 1991 Toyota van driven by Jonathan Petrikin, 46, of St. Petersburg.

Petrikin was treated for minor injuries on scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
