The woman who authorities said hit and killed a man with her car in a crash in Pinellas Park on Wednesday night allegedly told officers she fled the scene because she was drunk and scared, according to police.
Adelina Marie Mucciolo, 37, of St. Petersburg was charged Thursday with leaving the scene of a traffic crash with a fatality. Authorities say she hit and killed a homeless man, Raymond Gerald Johnson, 51, about 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 6500 block of 62nd Avenue N.
Johnson was found dead in a ditch beside the road, according to Pinellas Park police reports. On Thursday, authorities said, investigators called Mucciolo and she came to the police department for questioning.
"The suspect indicated that she had fled the scene because she was scared as she was under the influence of alcohol and controlled substances," according to police reports.
Officers seized Mucciolo's car and were processing it for evidence Friday morning.
According to Pinellas Park police, she previously faced an assault with a motor vehicle charge. Court records show that case was closed before trial in 2007; Mucciolo was never convicted.
