Student injured in Tarpon Springs school bus crash

TARPON SPRINGS — A 17-year-old student suffered minor injuries early Thursday after a school bus was rear-ended on Alt. U.S. 19 and Wood Dove Ave, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Garret Mixon was taken to Mease Countryside with complaints of back pain, according to FHP.

Seven students were aboard the bus at the time.

About 6:20 a.m., troopers said the bus was stopped and picking up a student on Alt. U.S. 19 just north of Wood Dove Avenue.

The bus had its red flashing lights and retractable stop sign activated when a red Jeep driven by 69-year-old Billy Wayne Berry struck the back of the bus, according to troopers.

Troopers cited Berry with careless driving.
