Synthetic marijuana, alcohol and anger land man in hospital, say Clearwater police

CLEARWATER — A man was high on synthetic marijuana and under the influence of alcohol when he punched out a window Saturday and severely cut himself, according to police.

Joseph Cashman, 32, had been drinking with a friend Saturday afternoon and smoking Spice, an herbal product similar to marijuana, Clearwater police said.

Then he became angry.

Police said he began breaking and throwing objects around his mobile home in the Capri Mobile Home Park at 24195 U.S. 19 N around 6 p.m. But they also said that Cashman's anger was directed "at nobody in particular."

At some point, according to police, Cashman punched out a window on the front door of the home, cutting his right arm as it went through the glass.

Cashman lost a lot of blood, but the injury was not considered life threatening, officials said. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center.

A spokeswoman said it was unclear if Cashman would face charges.
