Tampa man dies in I-4 crash

TAMPA — A Tampa man died early Sunday when a car slammed into the back of his while he was stopped in traffic on Interstate 4, authorities said.

Tavares Deon Sherman, 33, was caught in stalled traffic about 2:30 a.m. on the eastbound interstate near the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. Edward Sovis, 36, of Lakeland, failed to stop and ran his Ford into Sherman's Lexus.

Sherman died at the scene, troopers said.

Sovis and three passengers received minor injuries and were taken to Tampa General Hospital. The patrol identified the passengers as Stephanie Adams, 36, Norrel Travis, 24, both of Lakeland; and Michelle Ramos Morales, 34, of Brandon.

An investigation was ongoing.
