Tampa man killed in overnight crash on I-4 exit ramp

TAMPA — A Tampa man died Sunday morning when his car struck the support beams of an overpass at the Interstate 4 exit ramp to northbound Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Luis F. Valencia, 23, was driving east on the I-4 exit ramp at about 4:45 a.m. when for unknown reasons he lost control of his Mazda 6, the patrol said. The car left the road, traveled across the paved shoulder into the overpass embankment and struck the support beams. The car began to flip over before it struck the support beams again, the patrol said.

Valencia, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
