TAMPA — Police have released a description of the vehicle that fled after hitting a mother and child walking across Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard last week.

Witnesses initially described the vehicle as a black SUV, but after further investigation, police say the car is a dark colored 1996 to 2000 Dodge Caravan possibly with a missing driver's side mirror and broken driver's side headlight. The grill may have some kind of red emblem or badge, police said.

The mother, 22-year-old Dana Franklin, has a broken pelvis and left leg, and her 1-year-old, Jalaya McClinton, has a fractured bone near her eye. Franklin was carrying McClinton to Today's Child day care, 2150 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., when the car hit her. Police said the two were not in a crosswalk and traffic was heavy.

Detectives ask anyone who saw the accident to call police at (813) 231-6130.
