Tampa woman dies in I-4 crash

TAMPA — A woman died early Sunday morning after a truck rear-ended the car in which she was a passenger on Interstate 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The patrol said Wayde Clayton Davis, 52, of Lutz, was driving a Dodge Ram west on I-4 near Seffner at about 3:30 a.m. when he failed to see the car driven by Abeer Abbas A. Afshi in front of him. The truck hit Afshi's PT Cruiser, causing it to rotate and come to a rest on the inside shoulder.

Afshi's passenger, Mai Amer D. Alahmadi, 27, of Tampa, was taken to Tampa General Hospital where she later died.

Afshi, 31, of Tampa and another passenger were not injured. Davis was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries and released. Both drivers and the passengers were wearing seat belts.

The incident remains under investigation.
