Tampa woman killed walking on I-4 in Polk County

TAMPA — A Tampa woman was killed early Monday when she was hit by a car while walking on Interstate 4 in Polk County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Milissa Grace Triplett, 44, was walking in the outside lane of the westbound side of the interstate about 1:40 a.m., troopers said. At the same time, a 1996 Toyota Camry was driving in the same direction in the same lane.

At a point west of U.S. 92, the Camry ran into Triplett, authorities said. She died at the scene.

The driver, Dennis Anthony Gayle, 31, did not see Triplett before the crash, troopers said. He and his passenger, Jermaine Rashard Bennett, 31, were treated at the scene for minor injuries, authorities said.

Records show that Triplett was released Friday from the Hillsborough County jail, where she had been held for about a week on felony charges of passing and possessing worthless bills. It was unclear why she was walking on the interstate.
