Teen found submerged at Temple Terrace school pool party dies

TEMPLE TERRACE — A 15-year-old boy discovered submerged during a school pool party Friday night has died.

The teen, Jessie Shillingford of Tampa, was hospitalized on life support until Tuesday morning. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office found the death to be an accidental drowning, a city spokesman said.

Just before 9 p.m. Friday, Temple Terrace police had received a call about a possible drowning at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex at 6610 Whiteway Drive.

The facility had been rented by Pepin Academy of Tampa, and about 150 teachers, parents and children were in attendance, police said.

When officers arrived, the teen had been pulled out of the water and lifeguards were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

He was taken to Florida Hospital in Tampa.
