Teen hospitalized after near drowning at Temple Terrace public pool

TEMPLE TERRACE — A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized Friday night after nearly drowning at a school pool party, according to Temple Terrace police.

Just before 9 p.m., police received a call about a possible drowning at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex at 6610 Whiteway Drive. The facility had been rented by Pepin Academy of Tampa and about 150 teachers, parents and children were in attendance, police said. It is unknown how long the teen, who has not been identified, was under water, police said. When officers arrived, he had been pulled out of the water and lifeguards were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The boy was taken to Florida Hospital in Tampa. His condition has not been released.
