Teenage bicyclist injured in Dunedin crash

DUNEDIN — A 16-year-old bicyclist was injured Saturday night when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 8 p.m. at the intersection of New York Avenue and Main Street.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, driver Mary J. Woodmansee, 89, of Clearwater had stopped her Jeep Grand Cherokee at a stop sign at the intersection.

She was starting to make a right turn when bicyclist Daniel E. McLaughlin of Clearwater left the sidewalk he was riding east on along Main Street and entered the crosswalk in front of her on New York Avenue.

Investigators said the teen had no light on his bike and was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Sheriff's Office said.

The crash remained under investigation.
