Three injured in collision that sends car careening into bicyclist

EAST LAKE — Three people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a two-car collision pushed one of the vehicles into a bicyclist.

One of the drivers and the cyclist were hospitalized in serious condition after the crash, which happened around 4:20 p.m. at East Lake Road and Ridgemoor Boulevard. The driver of the second car had minor injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, which is investigating, 66-year-old John Carr was southbound on East Lake in a 2007 Nissan when he turned in front of a 2008 Volkswagen headed north.

The two vehicles collided, forcing Carr's car into a cyclist in the crosswalk at Ridgemoor. Carr then hit a concrete pole.

The cyclist, 65-year-old Julian Conley, was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

Carr, who was cited for an improper turn, was taken by ambulance to Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 50-year-old Karen Porcaro, was treated at the scene.

All three people involved are Palm Harbor residents. An investigation continues.
