Three injured in crash involving Tampa police cruiser

ODESSA — A marked Tampa police cruiser was involved in a crash that sent three people to the hospital, police said.

Officer Kris Babino was driving north on the Suncoast Parkway after work Sunday evening when a vehicle on the side of the road tried to re-enter traffic near a Sunpass toll collection site north of State Road 54.

Police said the driver of the vehicle didn't see Babino and pulled in front of the cruiser, which crashed into it, totalling both cars.

Babino was transported to Tampa General Hospital with a possible broken left hand. The two occupants of the other vehicle, whose names were not released, were transported to a Pasco County hospital, one with a possible broken hip and the other with minor injuries.

According to Tampa police, the Florida Highway Patrol ruled that Babino was not at fault.
