TAMPA — Three Frost Elementary School students were being evaluated Thursday afternoon after the school bus they were riding in stopped abruptly behind a car that slammed on its brakes.

Their injuries were minor, said Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Nacole Revette, and they were not taken to the hospital.

Tanya Arja, a spokeswoman for the school district, said there was no collision between the bus and the car in front of it, which came to a sudden stop at the corner of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road. She said the bus was filled with 60 students and was "very close" to the next bus stop, which may have been why some students were injured.

By 4:30 p.m. the scene had cleared and the bus was finishing its route.
