A tractor trailer carrying hospital supplies crashed Wednesday morning on the Little Manatee River Bridge, closing interstate I-75 northbound for two hours and causing $10,000 worth of damage to the bridge, Florida Highway Patrol said.
The Leesar Health Trust trailer lost control on wet roads just before 6 a.m. and collided with a concrete barrier. When it came to a rest, the trailer was jackknifed and part of the cab hung over the side of the bridge, troopers said.
The engine caught fire after the tractor trailer hit the barrier, and troopers said approximately 40 gallons of fuel leaked from a saddle tank. It took two hours for troopers to clear the wreckage.
The truck's driver was sent to Southbay Medical Center with minor injuries. The load of hospital supplies remained intact.
