Traffic crash closes portion of U.S. 301 in Thonotosassa

THONOTOSASSA — A serious traffic crash Tuesday shut down a portion of U.S. 301.

The crash happened about noon near the intersection of Dead River Road, according to sheriff's officials. Initial reports said that four to five cars were involved. At least one person was injured, but the extent of the injuries was not immediately clear.

The Florida Highway Patrol closed the highway in the area while the crash was being investigated.

Drivers were being told to seek alternative routes.
