Troopers identify pedestrian killed in Mango crash

MANGO — State troopers identified a man who was killed Thursday afternoon while trying to walk across Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Mango.

Todd G. Janczak, 49, of New Jersey, was walking along the north side of the boulevard just before 4 p.m. when he turned and tried to cross to the south near Lakewood Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. As Janczak stepped into the road, he moved into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado headed east.

The truck hit Janczak and he died at the scene. The truck driver, Robert Vargas, 46, of Tampa, was not cited.
