Troopers name Tampa man hit and killed crossing street

TAMPA — A man struck and killed earlier this week while pushing a bicycle across Hillsborough Avenue was identified Wednesday as Robert Eugene Carlton, 57, of Tampa.

Carlton was killed Monday night after being struck by a minivan, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash happened on Hillsborough near 56th Street, east of Tampa.

A Toyota Sienna driven by Xiang Wang Wang, 48, of Port Richey was headed east on Hillsborough as Carlton tried to cross the road. Wang, unable to see the pedestrian crossing the street with a bicycle, struck him.

Wang was not cited.
