Troopers: Palm Harbor man turns in path of motorcycle

PALM HARBOR — Three people were hospitalized with serious injuries after a car collided with a motorcycle Sunday in Palm Harbor, authorities said.

Donald William Hutwelker, 82, of Palm Harbor was driving a Chevrolet minivan south on County Road 1 when he turned left on Wexford Drive N in front of 22-year-old Anthony John Riolo, who was driving a Suzuki motorcycle north across the intersection.

He crashed into the side of the minivan and was thrown inside it and trapped until crews rescued him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Hutwelker and passenger Velma Louise McShane, 85, also of Palm Harbor, were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. Riolo, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center.

Hutwelker was ticketed for an improper left turn, troopers said.
