Troopers searching for hit-and-run driver in Largo pedestrian fatality

LARGO — The Florida Highway Patrol was investigating a hit and run crash Thursday night near Ulmerton and Belcher roads that left one person dead.

A 41-year-old man, whose name was not released, was walking north across Ulmerton shortly after 8 p.m. when he was hit by a westbound vehicle, FHP spokesman Sgt. Larry Kraus said.

The driver of the vehicle, a silver Ford F-150, continued on Ulmerton and fled the scene. The man was pronounced dead at Largo Medical Center.

"We're looking for that truck as we speak," Kraus said Thursday night. "It will have heavy damage to the front driver's side."

The westbound lanes near Belcher were shut down for hours as troopers investigated. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact FHP at (813)631-4020.
