Troopers: Woman killed crossing Gandy Blvd. in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — A 24-year-old woman was killed early Friday after she was hit by a semi-trailer truck on Gandy Boulevard, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

The woman was hit about 3 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene. Though she was not immediately identified, troopers said she lived in Brandon.

Troopers said the woman walked into the path of the truck, which was heading west on Gandy. Her body was then run over by another vehicle, which did not stop, troopers said.

She had been trying to cross the road at a crosswalk with two other people after leaving Derby Lane when she stepped into the truck's path, officials said.

The truck, a gasoline tanker driven by Michael Angelo Martin, 68, of St. Petersburg, had a green light at the time of the collision, troopers said.

No charges were reported. An investigation was ongoing.
