Two people were flown to a hospital Sunday morning after two cars collided on U.S. 41 just south of the Pasco-Hernando county line.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Paul Ryan Smith, 28, of Tampa was traveling north on U.S. 41 just south of Bowman Road when he lost control of his 2000 Nissan on a rain-slick road about 11:20 a.m. His car then spun in the road and into the southbound lane, where it collided with a 1996 Geo driven by Sandra Maria Martinez, 49, of Spring Hill. A passenger in Smith's car, Robert Allen Peterson, 20, was thrown from the vehicle and onto the highway. According to the report, Smith and Martinez were both wearing seat belts but Peterson was not.
Martinez and Peterson were flown to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point with serious injuries, while Smith was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
