Two bicyclists seriously injured after collision with truck

ST. PETERSBURG — Two men on bicycles were seriously injured when they collided with a truck Thursday morning, police said.

Christopher C. Bryant, 38, and Fuggie M. Bryant, 35, both of St. Petersburg, were riding side by side in the 700 block of 46th Street South at about 11:40 a.m, police said.

As they approached Eighth Avenue, they rode through a stop sign, police said. They were hit by a 2001 Chevrolet pick up driven by Gary R. Debaylo, 48, of St. Petersburg, that was heading west on Eighth, police said.

Debaylo tried to swerve to avoid the collision, but the front of his truck struck the bicyclists, police said. Debaylo then crashed into a telephone pole and was not injured.

The cyclists were taken to Bayfront Medical Center with serious, incapacitating injuries, police said. Both men were drinking before the crash and appeared to be intoxicated, police said.
