BROOKSVILLE — Two people died and a third was critically injured when a motorist lost control of his vehicle on a wet road south of Brooksville on Sunday evening.
Shelton K. Rodgers, 24, of Brooksville was driving a 1996 Ford Mustang south on Culbreath Road, north of Chenoak Road, shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday when the car began hydroplaning and Rodgers lost control, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The car hit a culvert on the east shoulder and overturned, according to an FHP report.
Rodgers and passenger Christina L. Taylor, 18, of Spring Hill were pronounced dead at the scene. Passenger Allesha C. Burton, 18, of Spring Hill was flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa in critical condition.
No one in the car was wearing a seat belt, the FHP said. It was not known whether alcohol played a role, pending test results.
