Two fatal crashes occur overnight in Pasco County

Two fatal crashes occurred overnight in Pasco County, one involving a pedestrian, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The first happened as John Holahan, 85, was driving east on County Line Road in the left turn lane at the intersection of Shady Hills Road around 10:29 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. He failed to yield to a vehicle driven by Joyce Skinner, 63, making a left turn directly into her path, according to the Highway Patrol.

Holahan was transported to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. Skinner suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

The other fatality occurred around 12:20 a.m. Sunday, as Juan Martin Ibarra, 29, was driving north on U.S. 301 in the outside lane approaching Long Avenue and hit Jose David Funes, 30, who was standing in the outside lane, according to the FHP. Funes died at the scene. Ibarra was not injured, authorities said.
