Two men injured in Gulfport motorcycle crash

GULFPORT — Two men were hospitalized early Thursday after they crashed their motorcycles near Gulfport Boulevard and 59th Street, Gulfport police said.

Marcello Ciampolillo of Belleair and David Heyveld of Largo were both in fair condition at Bayfront Medical Center after the accident.

They were riding east in the 5900 block of Gulfport Boulevard just before 2 a.m. when Ciampolillo lost control of his Suzuki motorcycle near the curve at 59th Street, police said. Heyveld followed, sliding on his Yamaha motorcycle.

Police said both men hit the curb.

Witnesses told police that the two men were riding at a high rate of speed before they crashed.

Officers shut the eastbound lanes of Gulfport Boulevard near the scene of the accident for about two hours to investigate the crash.
