Two personal watercraft run into each other near Bayside Bridge

Family members on two personal watercrafts crashed into one another in a canal near the Bayside Bridge Friday afternoon.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office marine unit responded when a watercraft operated by Karen Wells crashed into a craft being operated by her husband, Phillip S. Wells, about 3 p.m.

The family had launched at the Courtney Campbell Causeway. They were heading back when the crash occurred. Karen Wells' watercraft crashed into the other after it slowed down, deputies said.

Courtney Wells, 20, who was riding with her father, was taken to the hospital with back injuries not considered life threatening. Candice Wells, 15, who was riding with her mother, was uninjured, as were the parents.
