Two Sarasota men identified as Hillsborough plane crash victims

PLANT CITY — The victims of a plane crash in eastern Hillsborough County on Sunday have been identified as two Sarasota men.

Hillsborough sheriff's officials said Tuesday that pilot David Harry Berman, 53, and co-pilot Akeem Travas Blake, 19, both of Sarasota, died after the two-seat Busby Mustang airplane they were flying sputtered, crashed into a stand of oak trees and came to rest upside down in a pasture.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash, which took place near a home on Tangled Oaks Trail in a rural area southeast of Plant City. The crash site is north of State Road 60 and a few hundred yards west of the Hillsborough-Polk county line.
