Van carrying inmates involved in traffic-snarling Plant City crash

PLANT CITY — A van carrying 25 inmates was involved in a crash early Wednesday that snarled traffic on Interstate 4, the sheriff's office said.

The crash, involving at least another vehicle, was reported about 4:30 a.m. on the eastbound lanes near Branch Forbes Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The van was headed to a prison, deputies said Serious injuries were not reported, but some inmates were complaining of back and neck pain, deputies said.

They were taken to the Falkenburg Road jail for evaluation at the infirmary, deputies said.

The circumstances of the crash were unknown early Wednesday.
