Victim identified in fatal crash on St. Petersburg's Central Avenue

ST. PETERSBURG — After a failed attempt to contact his next of kin, St. Petersburg police released the name Thursday of a man killed in a traffic accident on Central Avenue.

John Folger, 64, was driving his silver 2014 Nissan Pathfinder at high speed Monday night, heading east on Central toward 65th Street when he rear-ended a 1991 red Jeep Wrangler driven by Ronald Naccarato, 48, of St. Petersburg.

The Pathfinder continued east on Central Avenue for several blocks and then crashed into a tree on the north side of the street. Folger was taken to St. Petersburg General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Wrangler, Naccarato, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

It was still unknown Thursday whether Folger died from injuries inflicted in the crash or suffered a medical episode. It was also unknown whether alcohol was a factor.
