ZEPHYRHILLS — A 90-year-old Wesley Chapel man died Thursday after his Kia Sorento collided with two vehicles on State Road 54, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place about 8:48 a.m. Hector Sotomayor was driving east on State Road 54, then pulled into the left-hand turn lane at Eiland Boulevard.

Another driver, Kyle Lee Burgan, 19, of Wesley Chapel was driving his Chevrolet pickup truck west on SR 54 approaching Eiland Boulevard from the opposite direction, according to the FHP.

A third vehicle, a 2004 Honda driven by Richard Andrew Felipe, 21, of Zephyrhills, was stopped in the southbound right-turn lane of Eiland, the FHP said.

For unknown reasons, troopers said, Sotomayor turned left in front of Burgan's vehicle.

Sotomayor's car collided with the front of Burgan's pickup truck, according to the FHP. Sotomayor's car then spun counter-clockwise, troopers said, and struck the rear of Felipe's Honda.

Sotomayor was taken to Florida Hospital of Zephyrhills, where he was later pronounced dead, the FHP said.
