Woman, 57, killed crossing Belcher Road in Clearwater

CLEARWATER — A 57-year-old woman was killed while trying to cross Belcher Road Wednesday night, police said.

The pedestrian was run over at 10:25 p.m. by a Volkswagen traveling south in Belcher's middle lane just past Cleveland Street.

The car, driven by Ryan Pasco, 34, had a green light at the time of the collision, but visibility may have been bad because of rain and darkness, police said.

The woman, who was not immediately identified, was not walking in a crosswalk. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where she died.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
